Bürkert extends SideCONTROL positioner range to add digital communications to existing pneumatic valves

Bürkert has expanded its SideCONTROL series of electropneumatic positioners and process controllers to give operators a path to digital communications on existing pneumatic control valves without replacing the underlying hardware^[1]. The devices mount directly on installed actuators and cover flow, pressure, temperature, and level control applications.

What the devices do

The SideCONTROL range comprises three models: the Type 8791 positioner, the Type 8792 positioner with graphical display and keypad, and the Type 8793 process controller with an onboard PID loop^[1]. All three use universal mounting compatible with NAMUR-standard linear and part-turn actuators, and adapter kits extend support to non-standard designs including Type 3277 Samson actuators with valve strokes from 7.5 mm to 30 mm^[1].

The connectivity options span several protocols depending on model:

• IO-Link - point-to-point, bidirectional digital connection over standard cabling, with no additional switches required^[1]
• Profibus, AS-i, büS - Bürkert's CAN-based system bus, supported on the Type 8791 and above^[1]
• Industrial Ethernet - EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP, and EtherCAT on the Type 8792 and Type 8793^[1]
