YXY Electronics adds IP68 CAT6 coupler to its M20 connector line for permanent outdoor Ethernet runs

YXY Electronics' YPM20-CAT6CAT6-2 brings IP68 sealing, gold-plated contacts, and a -40 °C to +105 °C operating range to standard RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet field joints.

Dongguan-based YXY Electronics has released the YPM20-CAT6CAT6-2, an IP68-rated female-to-female 8P8C coupler that extends standard CAT6 Gigabit Ethernet cable runs in permanently exposed outdoor installations.[1] The part sits in the company's established M20 waterproof connector family and is the first variant in that line to carry a full RJ45 interface.

Construction and ratings

The YPM20-CAT6CAT6-2 uses an M20 threaded locking mechanism, silicone sealing glands, and a PA66 nylon housing rated UL94-V0.[1] Copper contacts are gold-plated, and the operating temperature range extends from -40 °C to +105 °C - wider than the -20 °C to +68 °C ceiling common on consumer-grade IP68 RJ45 couplers.[1] The housing is specified as UV-resistant and shock-tolerant, with strain relief and EMI shielding incorporated into the body.

The coupler supports both shielded and unshielded cabling and is stated to be compatible with CAT6A and CAT7 installations as well as CAT6.[1] Electrical ratings are 2.4 A and 250 V, and the part carries CE, FCC, and RoHS certifications.[1] Installation is tool-free: cables are inserted into each side before the M20 thread is tightened to form the sealed joint.

Target applications

YXY positions the connector at infrastructure segments where a conventional indoor RJ45 joint is the most common point of moisture ingress or corrosion failure:[1]

  • Outdoor CCTV and IP camera systems
  • Wi-Fi 6 and 5G access-point backhaul
  • Solar inverter monitoring and marine LANs
  • Mining, tunnel, and factory-floor IIoT and SCADA networks
  • Satellite antenna-to-indoor equipment Gigabit runs

The addressable market is expanding. Industrial-grade and shielded Ethernet kits now represent approximately 55-65% of total Ethernet kit market value, growing at an estimated 8-10% annually, driven by harsh-environment applications in automotive, oil and gas, and heavy machinery.

Production and availability

The YPM20-CAT6 series is manufactured at YXY's 20,000 m² facility in Dongguan, which operates five automated production lines with capacity of up to 300,000 connectors per month.[1] Each unit undergoes in-line inspection and ships with a three-year warranty. ODM and OEM branding are available for volume orders.[1]

Samples carry a stated lead time of one to three business days; standard production orders typically take seven to fourteen days.[1] A pigtailed variant, the YPM20-CAT6CAT6-01, is also listed.[1] Datasheets and 3D STEP files are available from the manufacturer on request.

The connector enters a market where the migration from legacy fieldbus networks to Ethernet-based protocols is accelerating across smart-city, IIoT, and renewable-energy deployments - segments where a sealed, tool-free RJ45 joint that survives continuous immersion and a 145-degree temperature swing addresses a real gap in the standard cabling toolkit. Whether the M20 thread size and 2.4 A current limit suit every panel-mount scenario will be the practical test for field engineers evaluating the part.
